CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a national nonprofit corporation dedicated to aiding fire and police crews during situations such as natural disasters wherein the fire and police crews are overwhelmed. Each community has a different CERT team. BBV-CERT (Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team) is the CERT team serving the Big Bear Valley.
As we all know, Big Bear Valley has suffered several disasters in past years, including fires, floods, windstorms, earthquakes and evacuations. First responders in our valley, fire fighters, police, and emergency workers are well prepared to handle emergencies. But, during a disaster, too many serious incidents can overwhelm emergency services.
When called out in an emergency, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trains citizen volunteers to support first responders in protecting ourselves, our families, and neighbors and our neighborhoods. We help and support our fire and police and you can get this training and be better prepared to help you and your family.
Big Bear Valley CERT (BBV-CERT) trainees take a 20-hour course provided by Big Bear Valley Fire agencies. We learn preparedness skills and techniques. Once sworn in as certified disaster service workers, we get more training at voluntary monthly meetings and secondary training events. We also participate in community events and activities throughout the year. We have more than 200 mountain residents who are BBV-CERT Team members.
We would love to have you as a member of our team!
