One of the most crucial preparedness steps is to maintain an emergency supplies kit of food, water, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, tools and emergency supplies and special items for medical conditions.
Residents should keep enough food and water supplies to sustain themselves for a minimum of 5-7 days, but it's best to prepare for two weeks.
Don't forget your pets! Residents can download preparedness documents including a checklist of Emergency Supply Kit contents and tips for food and water storage by clicking in the links to the right or by visiting www.fema.gov. Complete emergency kits can also be purchased from the Red Cross.
Residents may also sign up for emergency alerts via cell phones by visiting www.sbccounty.gov. Receive text messages on cell phones or voice over Internet phone (V.O.I.P.) numbers.
Preparing properly for emergencies can save your life and the lives of your loved ones!
