BBV-CERT General Meeting Minutes
July 22, 2024, 6:00 p.m.

Call to Order – Susan Elliott, President, called the meeting to order at 6:11 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance –– Steve Elliott led the flag salute.
911 Designee — George Muller volunteered to contact 911 in case of an emergency.
Secretary Minutes – Distributed by email.
Treasurer Report — Ed Williams reported an income of 8¢ in savings for the month of June. Checking account changes resulted in 0 interest. Balance in checking: $1,644.92; savings: $1,800.71. Total: $3,445.63. The fiscal year ended on June 30, 2024 with a net increase of $160.88.
Committee Reports
- Fundraising – Marie & Jim Smith reported on fundraisers:
- Maggio’s Pizza Fundraiser — BBV CERT received a generous check for $765 from Maggio’s.
- Sonora Cantina w/Opportunity Drawings, Monday, September 9, 11:00 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
- See’s Candy Online Fundraiser, mid-October through November 10 for delivery in time for Thanksgiving, and through December 6 for delivery for Christmas. Free shipping with orders over $75.
- Membership – Johnny Wells announced opportunities to meet the public, share about BBV CERT and recruit individuals for basic training at the Farmers Market at Meadow Park Friday nights through Sept., and Labor Day weekend Art, Gem & Mineral Show at the Masonic Lodge. Contact Johnny if you can help man the booth at these events, 909-866-0862.
- Training — Due to the outstanding response of people interested in CERT Basic Training, the Board decided to tentatively offer a second class, October 14-18, at the Masonic Lodge.
If anyone has suggestions for training topics at our general meetings, please give them to Johnny, 909-866-0862.
- Assets – Steve Elliott reported that he and Susan visited three CERT supply containers (BBCFD container, Irwin Lake shed, and Fawnskin FD container). The container at Bear City Fire Station is badly in need of inventorying. The other two are in good shape.
New Business
There will be a “Field Day” to inventory the Bear City container in the fire station parking lot on Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CERT members are invited to come empty out the container, inspect, clean and inventory all the equipment. This will help familiarize everyone with what we have at our disposal and pinpoint what needs to be replenished or replaced, and what additional equipment is needed.
Old Business
Signups are being taken for the Tour de Big Bear Aid Station, on August 3rd, and for the Antique Car Club Fun Run booth on August 10th. The Kickoff Meeting & dinner for the Tour de Big Bear is Monday, July 29th. Contact Norma to sign up, 909-878-3429.
CERT ID’s — Susan is collecting photos of CERT members who have had their background checks to send to Robert Gonzales to produce the IDs. Send your photo taken against a white background to Susan, s14james@aol.com.

Comments — Bear Valley Community Hospital is conducting CPR Certification Classes on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 9:00- Noon, at the Masonic Lodge. If interested contact, Scott at the Hospital.
Training
- Johnny and Bob Grimes displayed the contents of a “Red Bag” and explained how the bags will be distributed in the community to help control flareups after firefighters knock down fires.
- Susan talked about “Extreme Heat” occurrences how to prevent and treat victims of heat exhaustion/stroke.
