BBV-CERT General Meeting Minutes
May 19, 2025, Masonic Lodge
Present — Marie Smith, Jim Smith, Susan Elliott, Ed Williams, Bob Grimes, Norma Grimes, Susan Antrillo, Michael Marty, Char Scott, Steve Scott, George Muller, Susan Smith, Sam Bolog, Andrea Gomez, David Arnold, Paul Arnold, Michael Kelly, and Kylee Matteao
Call to Order — Susan Elliott called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance — Susan led the flag salute.
911 Call Assignment — Andrea Gomez was assigned to call 911 in case of an emergency.
Meeting Minutes — Distributed electronically by Secretary Norma Grimes
Treasurer Report — Ed Williams reported that there was no change from April 28th except for 2¢ in interest in checking. The balance in checking is $5,556.81. The savings balance is still $1,801.41. For a total of $7,358.22.
Committee Report
- Fundraising Committee– Marie & Jim Smith arranged for fundraisers at Maggio’s on July 9th and Sonora Cantina on September 8th.
- Membership – In Johnny Wells absence, Susan shared about recruiting opportunities: Farmers Market on Fridays, 3-8 p.m. at Meadow Park and the Enchanted Garden Boutique on Saturday, June 28, 9:30-4:00 at Veterans Park. Signup sheets were available.
The Grimes’ will set up a kiosk at the Art, Gem & Mineral Show at the Masonic Lodge, May 24-25, with signage including a QR code for the BBV CERT website.
- Training — George Muller gave a preview of ideas he has for monthly training. He solicited suggestions for future training that’s applicable to Big Bear CERT.
- Assets Committee – Nothing new to report.
New Business
- Nominations for Vice President and Secretary — These are two-year terms starting in July. The CERT Board has nominated George Muller for Vice President and Andrea Gomez as Secretary. Nominations were opened from the floor. No further nominations were made. Election of officers will take place at the June 23rd General Meeting. It was the decision of the Board that anyone who has completed their CERT Basic Training may vote in the election.
Old Business
- CPR & Advanced First Aid Certification update –The hospital has not responded to the request for someone to teach us First Aid and CPR. George recommended an online course through the American Heart Association. The Heart saver First Aid, CPR and AED training is available online, however in-person training is required to get a certificate. The training course costs $21. https://share.google/EVCmNBy2s6060sBJH
- CERT IDs are on their way! OES has still to arrange for local background checks at the Sheriff’s Station.

Monthly Training — George led hands-on first aid practice in bleeding control, and splinting of fractures, long bone stabilization, and immobilization.
