BBV-CERT General Meeting Minutes

Call to Order:
- Susan called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.
Allegiance to the Flag:
- The pledge of allegiance of led by Susan and recited by all members.
911 Designee for Meeting:
- Chris Carson was appointed as the 911 designee for tonight’s meeting.
Treasurer Report:
- Dede reported that the only activity during May was a $163 deposit (from a prior auction) bringing our May month-end balance to $3,284. Susan reminded the group that we will be opening an account with US Bank in the coming months.
New Business/Old Business:
- Elections and Nominees:
- Vice-President: Bob Grimes
- Treasurer (mid-term replacement): Ed Williams
- Secretary: Norma Grimes
A vote was held for each position above. All positions were unanimously approved and to be added to the signature card with US Bank, including the President, Susan Elliott.
The group then discussed the need for a laptop that officers could use/share for BBV-CERT purposes. A motion was made and unanimously approved to spend up to $1,000.
- Upcoming Local Community Events:
- Tour de Big Bear, August 5, Snow Valley Location
Susan commented that TDBB will provide $300 for teams that incorporate a theme. She added that our theme will utilize Gnomes dressed up as CERT members. She also mentioned that the kickoff meeting will be July 31 at OCI with the “Thank you” dinner to be held at Wyatt’s in mid-August.
- Upcoming Fundraising Events –
- Marie reported that she talked with Sandy at Maggio’s and calendared a tentative date (November 8) to be approved by Denise.
- Asset Committee (Next Steps, if any):
- Topic rescheduled for July 24 meeting
- Renewal of CERT licenses:
- Susan re-iterated that a new person is now onsite at OES, David Davis, who will have oversight over CERT programs and will be supporting us in promoting and rebuilding our program. She added that David is aware of the license expiration issue and will be addressing that.
- Susan reported that her next meeting with David will be on Wednesday.
- Training/Topic Scheduled for the General Meeting:
- None tonight
- Upcoming Training/Other Events:
- Ham Radio Testing and Preparation (Available through K6DDZ.com)
- BBV-CERT Recruitment – Tentatively targeting the week of August 20
- Red Bag Training: Date TBD
Other Comments:
- Chris raised the suggestion of promoting BBV-CERT at selected biking/similar events, possibly at BBMR. More news to follow.
- Next Meeting: July 24, 2023, at 6:00 pm, Big Bear Lake Fire Department Station.
