Call to Order:

  • Susan called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.

 

Allegiance to the Flag:

  • The pledge of allegiance was led by Susan and recited by all attendees.

 

911 Designee for Meeting:

  • Chris Carson was appointed to act as the 911 designee for tonight’s meeting.

 

Training for the General Meeting:

  • Susan reported that the meeting tonight will be limited to the “After Action Briefing” on Wildland Fire Sheltering presented by Erin Fox with the Red Cross.

 

  • Erin then joined the meeting on-line. She welcomed everyone to the briefing and led an overview and discussion that followed a PowerPoint presentation. Erin covered a variety of topics that included (but was not limited to) the following:

 

  • Software Apps commonly used by the Red Cross (including the Owl camera)
  • The activation process and agencies involved
  • The database of information and what is tracked (form 5266)
  • The process of dealing with clients (from entry to exit), including the building of trust and relationships
  • Special circumstances and handling (including Homeless and Veterans resources)
  • Radford stats and backup shelters on standby
  • Erin then led an open discussion about the recent Radford activation and shelter operations and requested comments and/or areas that could be improved upon. Various experiences were shared. Improvement considerations included:

 

  • Arranging availability of equipment to move supplies (i.e. dolly)
  • Enhance interaction of specialty agencies with clients
  • Improve process for providing CERT representative with appropriate sign-in forms for County reporting

 

  • Erin proceeded with a walkthrough of standardized forms used by the Red Cross including:
    • Shelter Visitor Sign-in Form
    • Shelter Staff Sign-in Form
    • Shelter Dormitory Registration
    • Daily Shelter Report
    • Facility/Shelter Opening and Closing Inspection Form

 

  • Erin thanked everyone for their participation and responded to various questions.

 

 

Meeting adjournment: There-being no further questions or comments, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made,  seconded and approved by all. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:15 pm.

 

Next meeting:  Tentatively February 2023 with more information to follow.
