BBV-CERT General Meeting Minutes 

July 24, 2023 

Attendees: Susan Antrillo, Dede Hermon, Tom Hermon, Nancy Karlson, Jim Smith, Marie Smith, Ed Williams, Norma Grimes, Bob Grimes, Susan Elliott (phone)

Call to Order:

  • Bob Grimes called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.

Allegiance to the Flag:

  • The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Norma.

911 Designee for Meeting:

  • Dede volunteered to be the 911 designee.

Treasurer Report:

  • Ed reported that we received 9 cents interest in our checking account, and 25 cents  interest in our savings account. As of the end of June, the balance in checking is  $2283.19 and the balance in savings is $1,001.56, for a total balance of $3,284.75
  • Ed has no access to bank accounts yet. There is a need to open new accounts at U.S.  Bank. Dede will write a check so we can open the account. Ed, Bob and Norma can go  open new account and Susan can be added later. Ed will make an appointment with  U.S. Bank sometime in the first week of August. Nancy said the current bank needs to  be called to let them know we’re closing the account so charges will not be incurred.
  • Ed found a company that sells CERT canopies but they cost over $700. Amazon has a  green, 10’ x 10’ for $139. Ed was given the okay to order the canopy and two CERT  flags from Amazon.
  • Ed put request on FaceBook on Big Bear Stuff for Sale for laptops for BBVCERT. A  Toshiba and a MacBook Pro were donated.

New Business/Old Business:

  • Upcoming Local Community Events:
  • Tour de Big Bear, August 5, Snow Valley Location, 6-11 a.m. Need more  volunteers.
  • Kickoff meeting/dinner will be July 31 at OCI at 6 p.m.
  • “Thank you” dinner at Wyatt’s on August 20.
  • Susan ordered a number of volunteer t-shirts in different sizes.
  • Upcoming Fundraising Events:

Maggio’s fundraiser date, November 8, was approved by Denise. A percentage of the  pizza sales will be donated to BBVCERT.

  • Asset Committee :

Inventory of containers at station #282 and Fawnskin needs to be made when weather  cools.

The lock on the trailer at Paradise Yard was cut in order to do the inventory. Susan will  confirm with Steve that a key is located onsite and that Ed gets a copy.

  • Renewal of CERT licenses:

Susan will have a teleconference with David Davis, OES Director, July 25th.

In previous conversation David stated that he doesn’t think the licenses need to expire.  The background check and fingerprinting should be sufficient for permanent licensing.

Dede suggested we get stickers to cover expiration date on the ID’s.

  • Training/Topic Scheduled for the General Meeting:

Deferred as new materials are being developed for the CERT programs. Susan will  discuss status with David.

Upcoming Training/Other Events:

  • Ham Radio Testing and Preparation (available through K6DDZ.com) • BBV-CERT Recruitment – Training tentatively scheduled the week of August 20. A  minimum of 10 signups is needed. Potential trainees will be emailed. Norma will design  flyers, write a newspaper article, radio announcements, and Facebook posts. It was  suggested that we have signups at VONS, Staters, Christmas Tree Corner, and the car  show. Marie gave us contact for the President of the Antique Car Club.

Other Comments:

  • Next Meeting: August 28, 2023, at 6:00 pm, Big Bear Lake Fire Department. • Susan and Norma will formulate a questionnaire for members to determine what they  would like to see CERT do as we move forward? What kind of training do they want?
