BBV-CERT General Meeting Minutes
October 23, 2023, 6:00 p.m.
Big Bear Lake Fire Department Station
Attendance: Susan & Steve Elliott, Bob & Norma Grimes, Ed Williams, Jim & Marie Smith, Joyce Crist, Susan Antrillo, Michael & Barb Marty, Ian Thome, Judy Whitaker, Char-Lee & Steve Scott, Gayle & David Venegas, Dede Hermon, Nancy Karlson, Lilly Schermerhorn, Sam Bolog
Call to Order – Susan called the meeting to order at 6:04.
Pledge of Allegiance – Susan led the flag salute
911 Designee – Joyce Crist volunteered
Secretary Minutes – No General Meeting in September
Treasurer Report –
- Ed Williams reported that we received $.08 interest in savings; $.01 interest in checking. Current balances: $3.060.91 in checking; $1,800.08 in savings. Total balance: $4,860.99
Committee Reports –
- Marie Smith reported on fundraising. The Pampered Chef online fundraiser continues until November 25 to provide opportunity for holiday shopping.
The Pizza fundraiser is on November 8 at Maggio’s. A percentage of the sales of whole pizzas sold that day will go to CERT.
New Business
- Training Schedule – The topic for the November 27 meeting will be CERT backpack checks. Bring your backpack and learn what goes in it.
- Ham Radio Licensing – Dede Hermon, Nancy Karlson and Ed Williams are available for testing for ham licenses. Contact Dede for an appointment, 909-878-3456, DedeK6DDZ@gmail.com
Dede shared about the Kodiak race. There were 50 ham radio operators involved and 1500 runners over a 3-day period. She encouraged CERT to be involved next year, Oct. 11 & 12, 2024
Old Business
- Renewal of CERT licenses status. CERT licensing will be the major topic at OES meeting Nov. 8 in Rialto. There is a push to make them permanent.
Upcoming Training/Other Events
- Pampered Chef Fundraiser, now thru November 25, pamperedchef.com/party/bigbearcert
- Maggio’s Pizza Fundraiser, November 8, 11:30 a.m. until closing
- Next meeting: November 27, 2023, at 6:00 pm, BBL Fire Station
- Christmas Potluck Party, December 11
- Ham Radio Testing and Preparation (available through Dede Hermon, K6DDZ.com)
Comments/Announcements
Registered nurse Barbara Marty announced that she is conducting a Basic Life Support School class with special rates for CERT members. Contact Barbara if interested, 562-537-4669.
